The bustling streets of New Jersey gave the world two musical prodigies who are currently making a name for themselves in the music scene. ABDI X and LUI! are set to hit the road for their ‘Onto New Growth Tour’ starting September 3rd, 2023 in Denver, CO at The Roxy Theatre.

ABDI X started his music career by writing for other artists in 2015 and has gained much credibility and experience over the years. Having the opportunity to work with artists and talents he looked up to growing up was a pivotal moment in his music career. ABDI’s journey from being a hip-hop fan in music stores, to being a recognized artist on the global stage in Time Square during hip-hop’s 50th Anniversary week is a testament to his unyielding passion and determination.

Coming off of a hiatus of three years, he is excited to have the opportunity to focus on his own projects and collaborations with the ONG collective started by fellow friend LUI!.

Hollywood Strikes Stop Celebrities from Marketing Their Films

 

A-list African American actress Tiffany Haddish was ready for an outstanding summer at the box office with the nationwide theatrical release of the movies "Back on the Strip" and "Landscape with Invisible Hand".

Unfortunately, both of Haddish's projects significantly underachieved in theaters, mainly because she couldn't market the films.

This leading comedian, along with other Black creators in the field, nonetheless stayed faithfully committed to the extended labor disagreement between striking Hollywood workers and large studios.

"Back on the Strip" was put together by an all-Black team led by director Chris Spencer and backed by companies Lumonosity, GVN, and 5120 Entertainment. It opened on August 18 but failed to take off as its star-studded African American cast, including Haddish, Wesley Snipes, JB Smoove, Bill Bellamy, and Faizon Love, couldn't advertise it due to the strike.

The film portrays the adventures of a team of "over-the-hill" black male exotic dancers who reconnect with their former selves when a gifted young star with an enormous... amount of talent joins their ranks.

Having been produced, financed, marketed, and distributed independently, "Back on the Strip" had a temporary accord with SAG/AFTRA to proceed with the film, but it still didn't win over its cast, who will be financially affected by the film's poor performance.

Black movie producers now face the challenge of reaching audiences using grassroots advertising efforts and focusing on women aged 35 and above with catchphrases like "Grab your girls!" and "Go big or go home!"

"Back on the Strip", though, appeals to adults of all demographics, weaving a romantic tale into a male stripper reunion that some are calling Snipes' triumphant return to the big screen.

A clever promotional strategy amid the continuing labor conflict managed to spark some excitement, but even a packed Laugh Factory in Hollywood in the days leading up to the premiere of "Back on the Strip," with many cast members performing stand-up, failed to mention the film.

Haddish, at least, arrived at the comedy club in a decorated "Back on the Strip" convertible, gleaming and impossible to miss. 

An impressive marketing stunt, to be sure, but like many Black actors and actresses struggling to find a way to connect with their audiences this summer, Haddish can't comment on it.

DJ Reddogg Productions LLC is a new Independent Digital Record Company founded by Gregory Redmond. Gregory Redmond, the son of the "Godfather of Chicago Music: Gus Redmond", has always been attached to the music scene even if only via his well-known father. The motivation behind the creation of "DJ Reddogg Productions", is to provide an outlet for new and independent artists and producers to promote their music via social media and mainstream.

When I heard the beat for “Wurk”, I sent it over to my long-time music business associate, Delle Del. Delle liked the beat and sent it over to Entre. Entre immediately hopped on the beat and dropped a crazy verse. From there, my music associate J.C. suggested that I add a female verse and recommended that we let 718Kay do the verse. From there I decided to add Prince Sinatra and the rest is history. Our first single is, "Never Change", featuring JC and produced by Beatmonster Marc. Both are heavy hitters in the business and DJRP is glad to be working with them on this project.


As for future works, the sky is the limit.

We had the pleasure of reviewing this song and and must say its one for the ballers and it has the potential to be a hip hop basketball anthem in fact we could easily hear this on an nba2k backing track or being played in-between half time during a BIG 3 court session.

We found Ball4me/postmalone to be an up beat hard hitting bass driven hip hop track with a repetitive catchy laid back hook that sticks into your head. Be careful it's contagious and will have you wanting to play the song over and over again. The clever use of basketball game time audio subtly inserted throughout the song immerses you In the game time experience from the crowd cheers to the final ref whistle the entire song is a tribute to basketball hip hop culture

Murs X Wiardon - "Flowers For Guru"

California emcee Murs & Texas beatsmith Wiardon present "Flowers For Guru", a 7/17 birthday dedication to late Gang Starr emcee Guru and the lead single from the forthcoming deluxe edition of Murs & Wiardon's speak n spell EP, which adds several unreleased cuts as well as remixes from ProducerTrentTaylor and Balt Getty. The original version of the EP dropped last spring, spearheaded by the "Starting Lineup" single featuring Larry June and ICECOLDBISHOP (stream on Youtube). Mic Nickels feat. Method Man - "El Matador"

Prominent NYC Hip Hop Artist Mic Nickels has teamed up with Wu-Tang legend Method Man on hard-hitting new single "El Matador", out on streaming platforms July 21st. With 25 years in the game, Mic has the wit and wisdom of the best in the business. Mic Nickels and his ample poetic talents originally attracted the likes of MF Doom to this track, but sadly it could not be completed before he passed. It seems fitting for Method Man to bring his giant presence to this spirited boom bap banger. This new release is accompanied by 3 remixes.

"This track was originally slated to feature MF DOOM. He agreed before he passed but never completed it.  Eventually we filled the slot great Method Man, which was incredible.  A complete honor for him to hear my music and say yea, I can get with that!  The idea behind the track was to discuss how one deals with their opponents, almost how a matador plays with their aggressor. The premise came to me after reaching The Sun Also Rises, by Hemingway. I wrote and recorded it before anyone emcee listened, so it doesn't cater towards Meth or anyone else's style. Just pure poetry. 

This is the final single from the album Bars for Days, released 12/21, which also comes with my ethnographic memoir that bares the same title and cover.  Readers can access the album directly from the book, and will find certain stories correspond with the music directly." - Mic Nickels

K4LT - "LCPD"

Berlin-based Avantgarde Musician and Producer K4LT casts a long, disquieting shadow on his new single "LCPD", released May 2nd on streaming platforms. This visionary multi-instrumentalist doesn't merely embrace darkness in his work. He makes himself completely at home expressing bleak truths and cold emotion, masterfully combining Alternative, Indie, Avantgarde, Post-Punk, Doom and Dark Wave sounds to form a formidable original sound.

"LCPD" is K4LT´s first single in two years and addresses one of the most painful breakup types: An amicable one. Since the release of the first EP "Endgame", the loss of loved ones and various other personal setbacks lead to probably the most difficult time in K4LT´s life. As a reaction, his sound has been refined into a less rock-orientated, slightly calmer and more structured approach, while still keeping the ominous overall aesthetic. Synths, including a modded Omnichord, play am even bigger part in K4LT's sound now. The guitar is just a layer for that desperate feel instead of playing riffs or lead.

Eric H. F. Law - "RECREATE" (Album)

Inspirational Folk Rock Singer Songwriter Eric H. F. Law mines current events in an often frightening world, while simultaneously turning within for clarity, wisdom and hope on new album "Recreate", out now on streaming platforms. Eric's authentic creative approach is inspired by a long lineage of great storytellers such as Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan and Daniel Lanois. 

Ultimately, it is Eric's mission as an artist to look at and understand the darkness in order to bring about the light of awareness and understanding. Although the album speaks on themes ranging from the January 6, 2021 insurrection to the killing of George Floyd, the all-pervasive theme is a belief in the power of love to transmute any lower energies and provide renewal.

"Hands On My Shoulder" is an ode to Joe Biden who, for me, restored our need for a compassionate leader in the highest office of our land – someone who noticed and listened to the elevator operator and a stuttering young man.  Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "I Love-I Am" offers a non-violence approach to change: "Hatred and violence can never stop the virus of fear; only love can do that."  "Slow Me Down" invites us to slow down and notice those whom we left behind and to dance to LOVE's mercy beat.  "Small Things" calls us to see the interconnectedness of all things – big and small.  By living into this interconnectedness among people and with the earth, we can find the hope, courage and grace to RECREATE a gracious day in this polarized frightening world."

The Splatter Pattern - "While We Were Making Plans" (Album)

Kansas City Art Rock Duo The Splatter Pattern capture the experimental spirit of late-70's Bowie coupled with ample psychedelia, post-punk and progressive rock sounds on their dynamic new album "While We Were Making Plans", out now on digital platforms. 

The band name 'The Splatter Pattern' is quite appropriate, chosen to represent the wide range of influences wantonly thrown into the band's unique musical gumbo, one they're constantly stirring. Their self-produced new album was written and recorded during the pandemic, hence the title "While We Were Making Plans". Life had other plans for them, and they rolled with the punches.

"While We Were Making Plans" covers a wide range of compelling themes to compliment the vast musical range displayed in this 10-track collection. "The Wheel" describes the metamorphosis of life, time in the corporate world, and trying to build your own world amongst the constant outer chaos. "The Space Between the Seconds" tells the story of a coincidental meeting that leads to a lifetime love. "Giants" reflects on the fading away of the great musicians of the 60's/70's, and the shock and adulation that follows their leaving. "The Corner of My Eye" imagines the loss of someone close, and how it resonates in everyday life. "Siblings" is about interpersonal relationships and the loss of communication. "Walking To The Water" riffs on the struggle for clean water and survival in African 3rd World countries. "Higgs Boson" is a stream of consciousness acknowledging the chaos thriving in the world today. "Forward and Back" reminisces on the passing of time and the frailty of memory, while album closer "Please Go Away" laments on focusing too much on the past or the future, pointing out that now is, in fact, the only thing that's real.

LokkisKott - "Deep Inside"

Australian Singer Songwriter LokkisKott has released the unabashedly angst-ridden new single "Deep Inside", out now on digital platforms. The intensely personal song showcases acoustic guitar layers beneath the heavy Alternative and Gothic influences shaping LokkisKott's dark, confessional vocals and lyrics. Fans of singers like Chester Bennington or Corey Taylor's more melodic output, as well as bands like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. should appreciate the emotional rawness on display here.

"I created the artist name "LokkisKott" from my first and middle names, Lachie and Scott. I capitalized the "K" in LokkisKott to make the double meaning of "Lokki's Kott", i.e., "Lachie's Cot", referring to my baby cot, where my 'inner child' now rested."

Hailing from Goulburn, New South Wales, LokkisKott is the solo creative vehicle of multi-talented musician Lachie Alford, whose interests in cinema, theatre, story writing and expressing life experiences fuel his song craftsmanship and creative process. Ultimately, this project is guided by its founder's own personal philosophy.

A self-taught artist, LokkisKott has always had an ear for music, with his first real connection being forged with the almighty AC/DC, followed later by Slipknot and Linkin Park. His fascination with music came both from his upbringing and his life experiences through school and beyond.

"Towards the end of high school, I became interested in vocals. I'm unsure where it started. However, my biggest influence was Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, which I became a serious fan of. When I was younger, I remember "What I've Done" in the Transformers movie. I spent a long time trying to find who it was. In the 2003 movie, "S.W.A.T", I heard that part of "Figure.09" and liked the sound, wondering who it was. I think the natural power and character drew me to Chester's voice. It has a unique balance of angst and soothing which was an eye-opener. Linkin Park's diverse sound and Chester and Mike's duo also ignited my passion. Later, I got their Meteora album along with the others. When I heard "Somewhere I Belong" and "Figure.09", I was stunned, recognizing them from childhood."

"Deep Inside" was originally written while LokkisKott was in his early teens, only to be honed and perfected for the right time to produce and release.
